International health partners announced a global mpox vaccine stockpile designed to improve access during outbreaks. WHO's 2 September release said the initiative had launched on 27 August and was expected to begin operating later in September.

Funded by Gavi and coordinated through the International Coordinating Group on Vaccine Provision, the mechanism is intended to be available to all countries. It builds on emergency allocation arrangements established during the 2024 mpox public health emergency. Partners include WHO, UNICEF, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, and Médecins Sans Frontières. The move addresses an enduring problem in outbreak response: countries facing urgent demand may not have timely access to supplies. The announcement sets out a supply mechanism, rather than declaring that mpox transmission has ended.
