Mistral AI announced a public preview of Mistral Large 4 on 6 October, making the model available through its platform and API. The company described capabilities spanning text, images, coding and agent-based tasks, positioning the release within the international competition to supply general-purpose AI systems.

The preview and the release of model weights are separate milestones. Mistral said it planned to publish weights later in October; they were not presented as already available on the announcement date. Capability and efficiency statements in the launch material are the developer's claims and require evaluation against particular tasks. For prospective users, the immediate news is access to a preview service, while deployment options associated with downloadable weights remain dependent on the subsequent release.
